The phrase "tune-up" gets used loosely in this industry, and not all of them are created equal. Here's what a genuine seasonal tune-up should cover — and why each component matters.
Cleaning the coils. Dirty evaporator and condenser coils reduce the system's ability to transfer heat, forcing it to run longer to achieve the same result. Clean coils are more efficient coils.
Checking the refrigerant charge. Refrigerant doesn't deplete on its own — if the charge is low, there's a leak. A technician will measure the charge and, if it's low, locate the source rather than simply topping it off and leaving.
Inspecting and testing electrical components. Capacitors, contactors, and wiring connections are among the most common failure points in HVAC systems. Most of them show signs of wear before they fail outright — a trained technician catches these before they become a breakdown.
Verifying airflow. Restricted airflow causes the system to work harder and shortens its life. A technician checks that air is moving freely through the system and identifies any restrictions.
Testing safety controls. Furnaces in particular have multiple safety switches designed to prevent dangerous conditions. These are tested as part of a responsible inspection.
Checking the thermostat. Thermostat calibration and response are verified.
Inspecting the filter. A clogged filter is one of the most common — and most preventable — causes of system inefficiency and failure.
A tune-up from Good Day includes all of the above. We'll walk you through what was found and explain any recommendations before we ask you to act on them. Call (817) 502-2178 to schedule.
